In order to ensure your own power, you will have to enlist the support of the supporters of the factions that eventually decide to elevate one of you to the throne. You can subtly steer your conflicts to get your chosen faction to the top, but it would be foolish to place all your hopes on just one of them ...
The throne is empty and the island is in chaos. The circumstances are favorable, but do you dare to put everything on one card and reach for the crown?
The King is Dead is a game about political machinations in medieval Britain. During the game, you will resolve power struggles in eight regions of the island to determine which faction will win and crown the new monarch. Become the chosen one of the victorious faction and the kingdom will be yours!
During the game, you will play action cards to affect the balance of power on the board. You'll only have eight cards at your disposal throughout the game, so choosing when to join the game and when to quit will be the key to victory. If you start to act too quickly, the opponents will review your carefully prepared plans. You will procrastinate and the fate of the island will be doomed. Each time you perform an action, you will summon a minion to your court, thereby increasing your influence with one of the factions. Each summoned supporter of a faction will strengthen your claim to represent that faction in the battle for the throne, but will also weaken its strength in that battle.
When each region has established its loyalty, the faction with the most occupied regions takes over, and the player with the most influence in that faction wins and is crowned.
