The basic primer color, available on the market long before the advent of primers combined with a base color, was introduced. Gray is the most neutral color. It makes an excellent first coat for vehicle models, dominated by dark greens and browns, as well as various types of aircraft camouflage—blues, greens, and sands. It is also the longest-used primer, enabling the preshading technique. This process involves covering a model with gray and then a dark color, most often black, with lines that will be visible after the model is fully painted. Black lines against a light background contrast at fuselage, panel, and rivet joints—where dirt tends to accumulate. This is one of the first and most popular methods of weathering, or adding a realistic touch to a model. Primer can be applied directly from the packaging. During painting, it spreads to a smooth, uniform surface, penetrating well into the model's nooks and crannies. However, the most important feature of this product is its smooth surface.
Spray paint is very useful for painting large surfaces. The paint cures quickly. A can contains 180 ml of paint, which is enough to fully cover two or three 1/24 scale car bodies. These paints are resistant to acrylic or enamel paints; therefore, after applying a general base coat, you can also paint details with enamel or acrylic paints. These paints have excellent adhesion, are very efficient, and durable. They also offer a number of advantages, including ease of application, good coverage, and can be used on a variety of surfaces, from ceramics, wood, metal, plastics, stone, and concrete. The painted surface is also moisture-resistant. With just one coat of spray paint, you can achieve the same effect as applying several coats with a brush. It's also important to properly prepare the surface, removing any grease, water, or dust. Painting at the appropriate temperature, between 15°C and 25°C, and at a moderate humidity, e.g., below 85%, is equally important. You should also avoid painting in direct sunlight.
