Green Stuff World: Dry Brush Palette

Why is a textured drybrush palette essential for painting miniatures?

Because it provides control and precision in the dry brush process, a technique commonly used to highlight raised areas on miniatures. Dry brushing requires that almost all of the pigment be removed from the brush before it is applied to the figure, which can be difficult to assess without a suitable surface. The textured design allows painters to evenly distribute color and test the brush before touching the model, preventing over-application and helping to achieve crisp, clean highlights that beautifully bring out surface detail.

Another important benefit is consistency. When painting an entire army or terrain set, consistency in shading and highlighting is key to a cohesive look. This tool helps achieve this by standardizing the amount of paint you use on your brush each time. This consistency not only improves the quality of the final result, but also speeds up the painting process, making it more efficient and less error-prone, which is especially helpful for hobbyists working on large-scale projects.

They also simulate real surface textures, allowing painters to practice brushstrokes and test color combinations before applying them to a miniature. This means fewer surprises and more confident brushstrokes. It becomes more than just a tool—it is a training aid, quality control station, and creative tester all in one. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced painter, it improves both your skill development and your final results.

They are made from durable injection molded plastic and are crafted with fine detail that mimics the terrain or surfaces of miniatures. This realism makes it easy for painters to predict how colors will interact with different textures. With this palette of textures, miniature painters can expand their creativity while maintaining a high standard of workmanship, making it a truly essential asset to any workbench.
