Product description

The Stradivarius 8348 Imitation Kolinsky brushes by Raphaël are high-quality watercolor brushes with a synthetic Kolinsky bristle equivalent. These brushes are excellent for watercolor techniques, gouache, ink, and miniature painting.

Made of modern synthetic fibers, they faithfully replicate the characteristics of natural bristles—preserving a pointed tip, good elasticity, and high absorbency. These brushes are designed for exceptionally precise detailing, retouching, miniatures, and fine lines. Synthetic bristles are durable, resistant to deformation, and more resistant than their natural counterparts.

Although the synthetic bristles aren't as soft as natural Kolinsky, the brush holds the point perfectly, transfers pigment well, and allows for controlled line drawing. Artists value it for its excellent value for money and durability—even with intensive use. These brushes are completely vegan and free from animal-derived ingredients.

This is a great choice for artists looking for a synthetic brush with high precision, durability and properties similar to natural Kolinsky, at a more affordable price and with ethical principles.

Company history

Raphaël is the oldest European brand of art brushes, founded in Paris in 1793. It represents over 230 years of tradition, craftsmanship, and passion for art.

Since 1859, the company has been owned by the Sauer family, who have cultivated craftsmanship and the highest standards of quality from generation to generation. For over two centuries, Raphaël has been creating brushes appreciated by artists worldwide—both professionals and art enthusiasts.

The production of each Raphaël brush is based on the traditional master-apprentice system. The company's artisans train for years before they begin making their own brushes. This is pure craftsmanship—from bristle selection, through shaping, to final finishing.

The bristles are sourced from around the world and carefully selected for length, elasticity, softness, and durability. Depending on the series, we use hairs such as sable (Kolinsky), marten, goat, squirrel, high-quality synthetic fibers, and natural bristles.

Each brush is created with the artist in mind – comfort, precision, and durability. The company combines respect for craftsmanship with modern innovation, constantly seeking solutions that meet the expectations of today's artists.
